August 2024 Edition of the Orange Poetry Live Show – Soap Box Edition
The August 2024 Edition of the Orange Poetry Live Show, themed Soap Box Edition, was an electrifying night of spoken word, music, and creative expression. Held on August 30th, 2024, at Rovingheights Bookstore, Abuja, the event brought together poetry lovers, artists, and literary enthusiasts for an unforgettable evening.
The Soap Box Edition honored the legacy of Numero Unoma and Richard Ali, who pioneered open mic culture in Abuja. The night featured thought-provoking performances, moving poetry readings, and the debut of Soap Box Lite, a 30-minute open mic session where audience members took the stage to share their poetry and stories in a spontaneous, supportive space.
Event Highlights:
- 🔸 Soap Box Lite Open Mic: The night kicked off with a raw and heartfelt open mic segment, allowing new and seasoned poets to express their thoughts and emotions freely.
- 🔸 Powerful Lineup of Performers: The event featured an extraordinary mix of spoken word poets and musicians, including Pacella, Sheriff Reefstring, K.J, Crosswords, Victor Jimmy, Pelemo, Mystery Flames, ODENOSE, Deji Ije, and Manuel D Poet. Select performers also took part in special book readings, in collaboration with Konya Shamsrumi.
- 🔸 A Visually Stunning Experience: Thanks to Das Uzee Services, the venue was transformed with dynamic lighting and immersive ambiance, elevating the artistic experience.
- 🔸 Community & Engagement: Attendees enjoyed a 20% discount on coffee from Tigray Coffee, creating the perfect atmosphere for conversations and networking among creatives.
From the raw, unfiltered performances to the carefully curated stage design, the event was a celebration of the power of words and the beauty of artistic freedom. The energy in the room was electric, with every performance met with enthusiastic applause and appreciation.
